The Department of Education (Tasmania) are responsible for the decision to implement the Australian Curriculum, whilst reserving the right to retain their own state's priorities and approaches when it comes to curriculum provision and teaching and learning.

The Tasmanian Curriculum remains the required curriculum for a learning area until the equivalent Australian Curriculum subject has been implemented. These learning areas include:
The Department of Education (Tasmania) have incrementally implemented the Australian Curriculum in Tasmanian schools:
- In 2012, Tasmanian schools implemented an unchanged version of the Australian Curriculum F-10 for English, Mathematics & Science
- In 2013, Tasmanian schools were then required to implement an unchanged version of the Australian Curriculum for History (F-10)
- In 2014, Tasmanian schools are required to implement an unchanged version of the Australian Curriculum for Geography (F-8) and trial the Health and Physical Education curriculum (F-10). Some schools may choose to offer Geography as an optional subject in years 9 and 10.
The Tasmanian Curriculum remains the required curriculum for a learning area until the equivalent Australian Curriculum subject has been implemented. These learning areas include:
- Health & Wellbeing
- The Arts
- Vocational and Applied Learning
- Information and Communication Technologies.
Downloading the Curriculum
The curriculum can be separated into two sections: (i) The Australian Curriculum for Tasmania and (ii) The Tasmanian Curriculum.
(i) The Australian Curriculum for Tasmania
The Education Department (Tasmania) advises that schools download the Australian Curriculum directly from the Australian Curriculum (ACARA) website. The Progressive Curriculum Frameworks for the Australian Curriculum (developed by Anton Reiter of Effective Curriculum Ideas), which are a more user-friendly version of the Australian Curriculum (that clearly identifies progression between each year level and is presented in tabular form) can be downloaded from here.
