Kickstarter
Kickstarter is an online service who allows individuals in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Sweden, Denmark, Norway and the Netherlands who meet the requirements and rules to create a project (not purchase hardware) that anyone in the world can contribute to.
Creators must set a funding goal and a time that the fundraising must occur within. Backers are not charged for a pledge towards a project unless it reaches its funding goal. Creators are required to create rewards to share a piece of their project with their backer community (e.g. a copy of the program or a unique experience).
Parents and teachers can launch projects in collaboration with children under 18 only if the adult registers for the Kickstarter and payments accounts and is in charge of running the project itself. All the names on the accounts (Kickstarter account, funds account) must be in this adult’s name, and it must be clear in the project description or bio what this adult’s exact role in the project is.
Kickstarter applies a 5% fee to the funds collected. Access the Kickstarter FAQs to learn more.
