The Northern Territory Board of Studies (NTBOS) are responsible for the decision to implement the Australian Curriculum, whilst reserving the right to retain their own territory's priorities and approaches when it comes to curriculum provision and teaching and learning.
The Northern Territory Board of Studies (NTBOS) required Northern Territory schools to commence teaching the Australian Curriculum learning areas of English and Mathematics in 2012, and Science and History (T-9) at the beginning of Semester Two in 2013. 1 All schools will be required to commence teaching the Australian Curriculum learning area of Geography by the beginning of 2015. 2
The Northern Territory Curriculum Achievement Standards have been developed to support Northern Territory schools to have a consistent assessment and reporting framework that aligns with the Australian Curriculum.
NT schools continue to use the learning areas of the NT Curriculum Framework (NTCF) that are not yet replaced by Australian Curriculum learning areas and subjects according to the implementation timeline. These learning areas include:

The curriculum can be separated into two sections: (i) The Australian Curriculum for The Northern Territory and (ii) The NT Curriculum Framework (NTCF).
(i) The Australian Curriculum for The Northern Territory
The NT Department of Education and Children's Services recommends that all teachers regularly visit the the Australian Curriculum (ACARA) website to ensure that they are using the current version, new work samples and other resources and supporting information that are regularly uploaded to the site. The Progressive Curriculum Frameworks for the Australian Curriculum (developed by Anton Reiter of Effective Curriculum Ideas), which are a more user-friendly version of the Australian Curriculum (that clearly identifies progression between each year level and is presented in tabular form) can be downloaded from here.
